The Story of NorWest Co-op Community Health

What We Do

aboutus-banner

NorWest Co-op Community Health acknowledges that we operate our services on Treaty One territory, the traditional land of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Ojibway, Dakota, Dene and Oji-Cree peoples and the homeland of the Métis Nation. We also acknowledge that, in Winnipeg, we receive our water from Shoal Lake 40 First Nation and we express our deep gratitude for the sharing of this essential natural resource.

We also acknowledge that we work in an urban community on Treaty One territory with a high Indigenous population. We understand the harms inflicted upon our community members through a system built to exclude and isolate Indigenous peoples. We recognize the mistakes of the past and the present, and we dedicate ourselves to collaborating in partnership with our Indigenous community members in the spirit of reconciliation.

NorWest Co-op Community Health engages our community in cooperative health and wellness. We run a community-based organization that operates according to the following principles:

Our Vision:

People taking control of their health.

Mission:

To engage our community in cooperative health and wellness.

Values:

Respect
Integrity. Non-judgment. Dignity.

Innovation
Vital. Responsive. Best-practice.

Cooperation
Self-health. Engagement. Capacity-building.

Inclusive
Listen. Learn. Advocate with our local community around issues of racism.

We, at NorWest Co-op Community Health, stand in solidarity with Black, Indigenous and racialized communities, and the Black Lives Matter Movement.

We commit to rooting our work in justice, promoting health equity in all we do, embedding anti-racist approaches within our organization, our work and services, to create a safe and inclusive space at NorWest and within our community.
